Last month we touched on some ideas to protect you from Identity Theft and would like to continue this month and discuss Social Media.

 

 

 

Before you post information about yourself on a site, such as Facebook, consider if it could be used to obtain access to your records.  Pet names, place of birth, schools, date of birth are some of the items used by banks and others to verify your identification.  For someone who knows what they are doing, part of your Social Security Number is a regional code which knowledge of your place of birth will give them. 

 

 

 

If you have children, be sure to monitor their sites.  These sites are great for sharing with friends and family, but too often they allow criminals to glean too much information about ourselves. 

 

 

 

Before you post any information, think of how it can be used.

 

 

 

If your identity or information is stolen, acting quickly can minimize loss and damage.
